The IRS requires that I retain a copy of the IRSTAX file that I file electronically. Will the pension system retain this file for me?

The Pension System is designed to retain only one IRSTAX file at a time. In order to ensure that you have an exact copy of the IRSTAX file that was submitted to the IRS, you should copy the file out of the Pension System files and save it to another location on your hard drive or network. It would be good to set up a folder to hold the IRSTAX files that you send to the IRS. The name of the file should be changed as well, from IRSTAX to something more descriptive, for example, "IRSTAX file filed on 03-31-02". Or you could use the FIRE file number that the IRS assigns to each file that you submit. This file number will include your TCC and a sequence number. By following these steps, you will be able to respond quickly and easily to any IRS request for additional information. DATAIR's Pension Reporter will retain and manage these IRSTAX files for you automatically.
